The Pure Art and Ceramic Museum

In the early of its function, the Art Pure and Ceramic museum used to be the court or the Dutch Judge Council building. It was built in 1866-1870 and was known as the Raad Van Justitie building. However, based on the historical record, the antique building with the Rome-style and high, round pillars was erected in the Dutch colonial by the Dutch colonialist on January 12 1870.
Before it functioned as the museum, it used to be the offices of some institutions. In the revolution era it was the Indonesian military dormitory and the logistic warehouse. And in the middle of 1967 it was the office for the west Jakarta Mayor and it became the office for the Jakarta Museum and History Department in 1974. It was officially inaugurated as the Art Pure and Ceramic museum by Soeharto, in August 1976. The museum located at Pos Kota street, no. 2 displays the handicraft from all over Indonesia, such as national and international ancient ceramics.
Paintings are also displayed in this museum, some of which are the works of Raden Saleh and abstract style. To avoid some theft effort , the museum made the complete catalog book consisting of two volumes. The book called the "Main Book of Pure Art Museum" and signed by the Jakarta governor is the authentic possession for the museum. In the future, the information in the book will be informed to all painting collectors, other museums, and to auction houses like Sotheby's and Christie's in order that they can directly check the goods they suspect as the stolen goods. Unfortunately, the museum protected by the Cultural Preserve Law has low security because there are only four safe guards. They work only at night but at the day time the security is believed to the employees.
